Every six months, Dominican Hospital brings back members of the Total Joint Care Program to re-evaluate the patients’ functional abilities. The reunion also celebrates the success of their completion of the program following their surgery.

On the 26th of May, members of the Total Joint Care Program reunited six months after recovering from their surgeries at Chaminade Resorts and Spa. The Total Joint Care Program team and Dominican Hospital hopes to provide patients with the individualized and comprehensive care before, during and after the surgery. As patients prepare for their respective surgeries, data is collected from them to kick off the start of the program. This data is compared to the new data taken once again at the reunion to track the progress and impact of the program. Karen Gosling, Director of Health and Rehabilitation at Dignity Health Dominican Hospital, helps facilitate the program along with Cathy Lawhorne, Orthopedic Navigator. Karen, Cathy, and the rest of the Total Joint Care Program team work together to reach a faster return to normal movement and decrease pain and length of stay.

During the reunion, previous surgery patients had the chance to mingle with their peers from the program. OrthoNorCal’s orthopedic specialists, Dr. Abidi and Dr. Reynolds, also both spoke about what total joint replacement patients can look forward to following their surgery. As members of the Total Joint Care Program team, OrthoNorCal physicians also ensure that their patients will have all the resources they might need throughout the Total Joint Care Program such as patient education about the process and effects following the procedure. Dr. Abidi and Dr. Reynolds provided patients with answers they might have had about staying active to other various treatments for pain management. Both physicians were also available afterwards to answer any questions posed by the crowd.
